一年又过了。不知不觉十二月份就要结束了。
这一年是目前我最有成就感的那一年。
自己一个人到外国工作。
自己一个人生活。
学会了独立。
认识了很好的朋友。
做到了我以为我不能够完成的任务。
能够到欧洲旅行（这是我最大的梦想）。
当然也有一些让我不快乐的事情。那些都让我慢慢的成熟。。。
希望2011年也会带给大家很好的回忆。

Intimidated by a dog?

My colleague was just teasing me for being afraid of dogs a couple of days ago. This morning, I had a funny encounter with a dog.

I was taking the usual route to work. From afar, I spotted a small black dog with its owner. I thought to myself that by the time I walked there, the dog would have been gone.

To my utter disappointment, the dog was still there when I was approaching it. In fact, it stood still and turned to look back...not sure at me or behind as its eyes were covered by black fur and the dark was still a little dark. I couldn't make out where it was looking.

Braving myself, I took a step forward, it also took a step forward. Frightened, I retreated. Looking at the dog and then on the pile of snow on my right, I was wondering should I walked up on the pile of thick snow to get away from the little thing. I tried taking a step forward again. It did exactly the same! I then looked at the owner and then the dog. I dared not move. The owner then told me to walk, assuring me that it would be all right. So, I walked slowly. Phew......glad that the dog was not following me.

Nah, the dog was not as cute.....Wish it was this cute! :)

Second Winter @ Copenhagen 2010

It started to snow earlier than last year. It snowed the whole of last night. Upon walking out of my apartment, the ground was covered with snow. Beautiful....

While waiting for Tina, I managed to snap some photos around the neighbourhood.

We also took some photos as we walked to the office. Felt like we were travelling. Unfortunately, we were not. How nice if we were :p

A sinful weekend

So, it's back to my turn to bring dessert to the office. Some time ago, my colleagues attempted to inject some fun in the stressful working environment - we will have a little "game". Every Monday, 2 person need to bring dessert and others shall vote who the winner is after tasting them. The winner will then nominate the next 2 person to bring dessert the following week.

It's my turn tomorrow. At the same time, my colleague, Tina would also like to bring dessert for her team. A Tiramisu-lover, she wants to give the Italian dessert a try. We shopped for the ingredients on Saturday and on the very day itself, we experimented. The zabaliogne cream was not as thick as it should have been but it tasted superb.

Tina approved it. Proud ^_^
Today, we made the "real" one to bring to the office tomorrow. Of course, we spared some for ourselves. Hehehe. We managed to make 2 small bowls. Tina insisted to decorate them with strawberries. She was beaming and grinning from ear to ear while capturing the photo below. Cute...

Later in the night, Tina shared with me some cute pictures and I can't help falling in love with this cute little thing! Wish I could hold it in my arms....Oooppps,..it just made me feel sleepy, with the cosy blankets and all. Why Monday comes so quickly. Anyway, looking forward to Tuesday's dinner - hotpot! Yahoo....great for rainy and chilly weather ;)
Hope you all had a great weekend like I did. I had a scrumptious Korean BBQ dinner on Friday night and then splurged with the luxury of Mascarpone cream cheese on Saturday and Sunday - thanks to our Tiramisu experiments. Sinful, indeed.....but worthy! ;)

Culture Night @ Copenhagen 15th October 2010

It's almost a month these pictures were taken and here I am shameless posting them after a huge procastination :p

Culture Night is an annual event in Copenhagen, when many museums and tourist attractions are opened till late night. With a pass, which you can buy at train stations, you are entitled to enter these attractions as you like and the transportations are free for the whole night (actually, till the wee hours of the following day). Nevertheless, you may only manage to go to a few places in that night since every where is crowded and there is long queue at all the tourists attractions.

Tina and I first went to the Spanish embassy to have some free Spanish snack. We, then went to the church which was nearby. Next, a concert hall, the Round Tower before heading towards the Christianborgslot to see the ice sculpture design.

We really had a great time though we were rather tired after that.

We were trying to capture the lady in angel costume. Yay! We finally made it. See the mischievous and triumphant look on my face? :p

Thoughtful Gift from Tina

Last month, Tina and myself went back to our home country to study a course. Upon returning, she gave me a little gift.
At first glance, I was wondering why did she give me a pencil case. When I opened the case, ..........

Aw,.....the case contained a pair of mini chopticks and a spoon. She knew I didn't bring any chopsticks with me while relocating to Denmark. I could actually bring this little case with me while travelling. It's very handy indeed. How sweet. Thanks Tina! I love them ;)

Yesterday was the day that I was supposingly turned wiser. How come I don't feel wiser. Haha :P
It was indeed one of the most memorable birthday I had. Thanks to my colleagues and friends for the birthday wishes, card, flowers and gift! Not to forget the wonderful dinner we had with lots of laughter and good chat.

Sis, happy birthday to you too. Hope you had a great one.

2 bouqet of flowers and a book by Jimmy Liao (Tina, I will defintely put a lot of effort to learn Chinese so that I could read the book!). I am lucky! It was a huge surprise to me as I never thought I would be receiving 2 bouquet of beautiful flowers in a day. Thank you!
There were 2 surprises in a day. The first surprise and it was from Tina. Never imagined this bouquet could be that heavy, especially holding it while walking against the wind in a cold night. Anyway, it's defintely worthwhile. Thanks, Tina!
The second surprise...... Found it lying at my doorstep upon returning home. The combination of colours is beautiful, isn't it?

New adventure

I had been warned and yet I decided to jump into it. Perhaps, I should have really gave it a second thought. Anyway, I think it will turn out fine and fun eventually. It's just that I am rather exhausted right now. So, I am not exactly enjoying it.

Learning Danish is indeed a challenge, considering I had missed 6 classes! The rest could speak and understand what the teacher is speaking in Danish. I am still in a daze. A huge catch up to be done! And here I am, doing every other things but going through the Danish reference books :p

Nevertheless, the fact that my classmates are so eager to learn the language somehow motivates me as well :D Plenty of catch up to do this weekend!

Norway Trip 26th - 28th June 2010

I finally got out from my lazy mood! The trip was some time in June and I only blog about it now! Shame on me....

Anyway, it was a very short trip with my sister and friends during their stop at my place after completing their 2 weeks Europe trip. Lucky girls. Norway is always famed for its Fjords and nature. It indeed lived up to its reputation. I was in awe when resting my eyes on the sceneries while in the train and ferry.

For those of you who are interested to do a short trip, would recomment you to look out for the "Norway in a Nutshell" programme. It has a different set of train/ferry/boat schedule depending where you would like to go. Our trip basically focused on touring the Fjords. Most time was spent in Oslo and Bergen.

If not mistaken, it's a Gay Park. We were happily taking photos and then noticed that there were a lot of weird looking statues around. It took us some time to finally found out that. Haha.

It was sunny and people were everywhere!

Mmm,..if I remembered correctly, it was some kind of device to tell the time.

Disappearance

It's been a long time since I last posted anything in this little space of mine. I am still pretty much alive, though. Was busy with a course and I am determined to get my space here alive and kicking again soon. There are still a number of outdated posts which I had not put up. Not exactly sure it's due to my laziness or I am THAT busy hehe. Probably, a little of both.

Just got back from a baby shower party for two wonderful mother-to-be(s). I had a great time enjoying the good food cooked by the other girls and sharing the girly chat as well as laughter with all the girls, including the mother-to-be(s).

Autumn is here. The leaves are changing colour, which brings beautiful sight. However, I am not liking the fact that the day is getting shorter. Dark falls in quicker. Missing the long days of the summer!

Ghana

It never occured to me I would go to West Africa in the near future but here I am. Arrived at Ghana on a Saturday night, when everyone was busy cheering for the Ghana football team. Never a football fan, I wasn't aware which teams were playing. Alfred, the young chap who picked me up from Kokata Airport told me proudly that he supports the Ghana team though they were playing against an European team.

He then walked me to his car. The first thing I noticed despite the darkness was the layer of dirt/dust coated his car, causing it to appear dull. To my utter surprise, the cushion of the seats was also coated with a thin layer of dust. It seemed to me that the car had been transporting dirt/soil. Next, the air-con didn't work at all due to the amount of dirt/dust stuffing the ventilation. Most cars wind down the window to allow air circulation.

I must say that Ghanaians are rather friendly peeps. I could feel the warmth emitting from each of them. However, I still received some estranged looks from people on the streets. Oh well, I guess I would do the same if I were them considering there were not many foreigners around.

Coming to food, there were not many leafy vegetables around - mostly were cucumbers, carrots, french beans, red beans. Onions were used generously in any kind of dishes - omelettes, salads, gravies, you get the picture. It seemed that watermelons were always served, regardless during breakfast, lunch or dinner.
A similarity I discovered between this cocoa exporting country and Asia was that they feed a lot on rice. As an alternative, there was a dough that was made of corn. I have not tried that yet. I intend to try that in the coming days.

When my colleague showed me the buses in Ghana, I was taken aback. In most countries, we called those shuttle vans. Apparently, those were considered buses and they were privately owned. Interesting.

The town I lived in was an industrial area, with lots of warehouses, factories and a port. There was nothing much to explore if you have seen a port/terminal before.

Living in a developing country (oops, it seems that Malaysia is also categorised as a developing country but we are much more fortunate than the Ghanaians in terms of living) made me appreciate the things I have and made me count my blessings, if I had forgotten to do so. This is definitely an experience that is truly exotic and one to remember for a long long time.

Paris Trip 11th June - 12th June

Thanks to my procrastination, this post only managed to be published on the blog today! It was sitting in my draft folder for a very long time. Besides, I have photos from a couple of my trips which I have yet to post. I doubt if I could remember the name of the places :p

Those who like branded merchandises, Paris is definitely a place for you. Branded and luxury shops can be found along the main streets of the city. Apart from shopping, it's indeed an ideal place to appreciate the historical buildings and sites. They are magnificient and tastefully designed. The one thing that bothered me during my trip was the pollution.

To be fair, the French was not as arrogant or rude as most people perceived. Most of the people I met were helpful and rather friendly. It was still a fact that not everyone could speak English. Body language was necessary as a mode of communication.

In terms of food, I love the escargots! All in all, I had an enjoyable trip. Thanks Tina for accomodating me. By far, you are my best travel companion (apart from my sis).

Mmm..the best way to remember which picture is linked to which place is to take a snapshot of the signboards, especially if you only post the photos after some time. I was heading to the Pantheon (now I recall!)

Life @ Copenhagen IV

I did it again! Missing in action, that is :p
Probably, I had mentioned to myself for many times but I think I am still not doing anything about it - blog more often. Anyway, here is an outdated post (yet again :p). It's a short trip to Frederiksborg Castle at Hillerod with my fellow Malaysian colleagues/friends. Though I had been there 2 years ago, I thought it would be different going there during summer. Perhaps would go there this winter as my friend told me it has a different "feel" during winter when everything is covered in white snow ;)

Getting there: Take a S-tog (S-train) to Hillerod station. After alighting at Hillerod station, you can either take a bus or walk there. The latter option is actually faster. It takes about 10 or 15 minutes walk. View of the castle from afar. Hypnotising, isn't it? As we were taking a stroll along the lake, we couldn't help but snapping photos of the cute ducklings resting ashore.

Irresistably, snapped a few more photos of the castle from afar.

Interesting finding : There were some houses which were just right beside the castle! Lovely house, isn't it? When will I have mine? Hahaha.

The Rainbow

A couple of months back, I wished time would quicken its pace so that I could close another chapter of my life and move on to another. I was eager to start a new chapter because I thought that chapter I was (and still am in) wouldn't be that favourable. Perhaps it's always when one least expects a colourful image would be surprised by the emergence of one, somehow.

Looking back, I did have a fair share of down and up times. While the ups are definitely memorable, the downs did push me to bring out my courage to do or face some things that I otherwise might not have done.

Back then, I saw dark clouds above my head. At times, I still do see that. However, I am now seeing rays of colourful lights slowly forming rainbow before me. Ah, it must be the rainbow after the shower, eh?

Since my sister introduced this new song by Jay Chou to me, I could not stop listening to it. It's addictive. This is one of those songs which Jay brought out the emotion of the melody and the lyrics. Had I not known this song was sung by Jay, I could not guess who the singer was when listening the first couple of sentences. There was a slight difference from his usual mumblish style. As the song developed into chorus, it sounded more like his usual style. Anyway, I like it very much! Thanks, sis! :D

Life @ Copenhagen III

Saturday was a beautiful day! It was sunny and it wasn't as windy as last week. Hence, it was a perfect day to take a stroll and to capture the short moments of spring.

It was a disappointment last week that a Sakura Festival was celebrated without Sakura =.= Thinking that it would bloom this week, my friends and I planned to pay another visit to Langelinie park only to be disappointed once again. This time, we could see little brown-pinkish bulbs on the tree but Sakura still hadn't bloomed just yet.

We took pictures of the beautiful day instead :)

My turn :p Just love the colour of the sea behind me. It was exceptionally blue on Saturday :D Maybe, it was just me. LOL.

See what I meant? Anyway, there was some improvement (very little) compared to the previous Saturday.

After a day out under the sun, walking and posing for shots, it was time to satiate our growling tummies. As we didn't get to try the Korean restaurant last week, we decided to dine in this time. It was a quaint restaurant, cosily decorated, which was ran by a Korean family. Like any other Danish restaurants, it was small but the ambience was just nice.

While waiting for the courses in the set meal to be served, I camwhored. Be it object or human, they were not to be missed! Hahaha.

The kimchi was delicious but came in small portion. Luckily, it's refillable ;)

BBQ meat set. It came with a mixture of pork, chicken, beef and organs from the cow. As I don't eat beef, I requested for pork and chicken only. The BBQ set dinner costed 185DKK. However, I didn't take beef, I was being charged 170DKK instead ;)

Yippie! One shot before devouring them! Here you go, the shop's name is O Mo Nim. I shall definitely come by again. The service provided was good. It's a pity that they didn't serve Dukbokki. I was actually craving for it.

Owing to my laziness and procrastination, I only post photos taken weeks ago now :p
A Malaysian friend from London came to Copenhagen for a business trip and we decided to catch up and did some tourists activities though it was not her first visit here.

Since we had not tried brunch in Cafe Norden (a cafe renowned for its brunch in Strøget), we decided to go for it.

Hot chocolate which came with 2 complimentary cookies. They were good. Not too sweet ;)

Aha....this is the brunch. Fruits, sandwich, salmon salad, bacon, eggs, cake of the day, orange juice and some cheese. I couldn't finish all of them. Bread and the cake were the sacrifices. Danes have sweet tooth. Most of their desserts are too sweet for my liking. I thought the white layer at the top of the cake was cheese. Boy, was I wrong. It was icing! :S

Tadaa! All 3 of us ordered the brunch. How could we resisted that! Cafe Norden do have open sandwiches - one of Danish's specialty. However, I wasn't exactly impressed with them. If you had not tried them before, perhaps you should since it's the country's specialty and traditional food. As its name suggests, it's basically a piece of bread with shrimps or chicken fillets or fish fillets or slices of smoke salmon being placed upon it with dressings and salad. The top is uncovered (with another piece of bread).

After the hearty brunch, we decided to walk around and snap some photos. We passed by a church and saw a newly wed couple. They were surrounded by family and friends that came to witness and to give their blessings to the couple who reunited in the name of love.

This is not the National Theatre. Just one of the theatres in the town. Not as impressive as London's though. Had not been to any of the theatres or musicals so far because I could not understand Danish and even if they do have English ones, it would be really expensive.

Behind me is the Opera House. It can be visited via the cruise or waterbus. Waterbus operates like a bus and if you have a clip-card or monthly bus, you could hop onto it easily. Otherwise, you may pay for the fare onboard.

Easter - Count My Blessing

This year's Easter is indeed special to me. It's the first time I had a couple of days off as Easter is not considered a public holiday back in Malaysia. Not only I did not need to work, I had the opportunity to go for a short vacation. Sweet.

Instead of taking a flight, Tina (my colleague) and I travelled to Germany and Czech Republic via train. It may take a little longer but it was quite an experience. It's indeed a good way to admire the scenery, take a good rest and to have more time spent with your travel companion since you would probably spend hours staring out at the window, eating, sleeping or reading. Apart of time, it did give me time to reflect and count my blessings.

I may not be the luckiest person on Earth. Nor am I the unluckiest. Thus far, I am thankful that I am given the opportunity to meet great people and to grow as a person. Once being naive and gullible, I am fortunate that all the people I met in my first job are sincere to teach me, guide me and nurture me in any way they could. I could not thank my previous supervisor and manager(s) enough. Also, my lovely bunch of fun colleagues. They taught me a lot of things whether work wise or personal wise. I, now, may not have the luxury to be surrounded by your warmth (some of you) but I will not forget the good times we shared.

Though I cannot confidently say I am a much better person now, I did grow from what I was. I am not the kindest, sweetest, friendliest, noblest and the smartest person but I am touched that people around me treated me with much care and kindness. Thank you for accepting my weaknesses, thank you for offering advice when I needed one, thank you for listening to my endless rants, thank you for feeding me well, thank you for being there for me, thank you for your patience, thank you for your kindness. I reckon God sent all of you to me to fill up the gaps left by my weaknesses =D

The only way I could thank you is to continue to grow and strengthen my weaknesses.

Prague Easter Holiday 2nd April - 5th April 2010

From Berlin, we took a train to Prague and arrived at Praha Nadrazi H.l.n (its central station). Night had fallen by the time we arrived. We intentionally arranged for such so that we would spend the whole o the following day exploring the city and town while we had a good rest that night. It worked out pretty well.

Below are some snapshots of the hotel we stayed in for 3 nights - Grand Evropa Hotel, located at Wenceslas Square (Old Town Square), Praha 1, which is one of the tourist hotspots and all of them are within walking distance from the hotel. However, if you would like to get a ride on their public transportations, the train and tram services are rather convenient.

We headed to the famed Karlovy Vary town, known for its variety of hotsprings and beautiful scenery.

Prague is indeed a city of historic and art. You would not pass by any streets without seeing at least one or two shops or stalls that sell puppets and cups for tasting hot spring water. There were also a lot of handicrafts such as colorfully painted wooden flowers (we could not resist camwhoring with them!)

In the midst of our journey, we met this cute, adorable white dog. Her name was Amy. I was attempting to snap some shots of her. As though knowing someone was paying attention to herself, Amy looked right at the camera and at times, shying away. Though I am afraid of dogs, I couldn't resist Amy!

This is where we had our first lunch in Prague (at Karlovy Vary town. It took about 3 or 4 hours of train ride from Prague to this town. Karlovy Vary is renowned for its captivating scenery and hotsprings.

Tasting time! It was awfully salty @_@ and be cautious, the temperature of the water varied depending on which hotspring you drink from.

There were a lot of stalls on the streets selling skewers or grilled sausages. They do make your stomach rumble especially when you are hungry! However, you may end up smelling like food if you stay there for a little longer as the smoke from the grills will find its way to your coat/jacket and hair.

A local restaurant which we had waited for about 20 minutes before we were being seated. It was full and we did not make any reservations. We agreed to wait because the restaurant seemed good and most importantly, was claimed to serve authentic Czech food. It was Easter. Hence, it's comprehensible restaurants will be crowded.

We were given a bunny chocolate in conjunction with Easter celebration. It was too cute to eaten. So, we decided to camwhore with it ;)

The wooden flowers were simply lovely!

This is a must try local sweet snack. It may not be suitable for diabetics as the outer layer is coated by white sugar. It's made of dough, cinnamon and sugar. If you eat while it's hot, you will find it amazingly crispy. Skewers with bread! Prepare some CZK currency. Else, you may end up paying EUR10 for one, like us =.="

Berlin Easter Holiday 1st-2nd April 2010

This is the first time I actually had Easter off. Not for a day but for 5 days! How could that be wasted by sitting at home? Fortunately, Tina was interested to go to Berlin and Prague. Hence, we had set to go together! Hurray.....

We spent 2 days and a night in Berlin before taking the train to Prague and spent 3 days and 3 nights in Prague.

Instead of taking the flight, we ventured into the option of taking a train ride from Copenhagen to Berlin ad from Berlin to Prague. It was a good experience. The train operated by ICE DB Germany, went into a ship in the midst of the journey and were required to move to deck of the ship. Cool!

The train interior. It was clean and new. Very comfortable! This is 1st class by the way. The 2nd class seats were as comfortable. We took the 1st class because it came with the offer. A 2 person Eurailpass was cheaper. Since we had not stayed in Europe for more than 6 months at the time of ticket purchase/travel, we had to use Eurailpass. Otherwise, it would be Interrail pass.
All ready for the journey! Water, tea and croissants were provided by the train.Keep the voucher and you are able to request for water and tea throughout the entire journey.

Yay! Arrival at Berlin Hbf! Our hotel room at A&O Hostel. It's rather reasonable and comfortable for a short stay. Please do not bring huge/heavy luggage. You will have to carry them all the way up via stairs. Yes, no lift. Bitter!

View around the hotel. Its location was rather strategic. A lot of eateries around and it was near the tram and train station was within walking distance.
Good stuff! Kurrywurst! Sausage in curry powder and curry sauce. Very tasty. Have a sudden craving for it now as I post this entry =.=""

The traffic light icon was something that amused Tina and I. When it was red, the icon showed a standing man. When it was green, the icon showed a walking man. Cute!

It was our last day at Berlin. We decided to have a scrumptious lunch. After searching around, we found a local restaurant with rather good ambience. We turned into carnivors that day. We ordered all the specialties in the menu and they turned out to be meat! Verdict: Germans are carnivorous! As such, they weren't that healthy....but extremely delicious!

A sudden crave for Taoism!

What may have striken upon me, I have a sudden insatiable appetite for David Tao's songs! I am hoping he will have a concert soon! The memory of his last concert in Malaysia is still very vivid in my memory. His soothing voice echoed harmoniously in the stadium. I was completely hypnotised.

Desperate, I turned to Youtube to source for his songs. This is what I found - superb!

The Door Encounter

There I was, happily talking to my colleague after lunch before being hit by the door. Yes, you read it right. I was hit by THE door! Ouch =_="""

I was about to reach for the door to enter into the room where my desk was. Here came my colleague from the other side who was heading to the cafeteria. As the door was closed and it was a wooden one, there was no way both of us could have known who was behind it. I didn't hear him coming (perhaps I was talking with my other colleague). The floor was laid with carpet. So, I believe you figured out the rest of the story....I was hit right on the left side of my face and on my left leg. Luckily, it was not right on my nose. I would have a broken nose. There were a few other colleagues around when that happened. It was rather embarassing.

As though that wasn't enough, I was almost being hit by the door for the second time in just a day! Thank God, it didn't happen. This time, it was at the ladies. Phew.....

The Secret Agent

I had a hilarious conversation (via the office communicator) with my colleague today. Here is how it started. I wanted to know what does he do as I saw a similar position being posted on the job portal.

Me : Hey, what do you do exactly, as xxxxxxxx?
Him : I work on secret things....they are classified.
Me : Oh, you are a secret agent!
Him : Yes, I am now pointing a camera at you and looking at what you are doing.
Me : Whoa (put on a surprised emoticon), should I be scared?
Him : Well, my job involves looking at what girls are doing through the camera...

The conversation went on for quite a while...but I couldn't remember exactly how it was. In short, it was really funny! I was laughing like an idiot in front of the laptop. Thank God, my boss was not around. He would have been able to guess effortlessly that I wasn't really working! Haha. Anyway, by that time, most of the people had already called it a day off. So, I wasn't that guilty ;)

In Lost of Words..

My blog has been pretty dead lately, with not much entries. I suppose mind block is still in the way. I just can't help but wonder what had happened. Why am I in lost of words? Can't seem to find a proper thing to write about. I still recall how I fondly updated my blog when I first started. It's time to get back on track. Perhaps, I was being lazy, that's all. Just need to try harder, I suppose.

Anyway, I have this sudden craze to listen to instrumental music, especially by Kenny G (Believe it was due to my flight back for CNY recently. I was listening to a channel which played only music by saxaphone all night long!). I love the melody produced by saxaphone and couldn't find anyone as good as Kenny G! Maybe I wasn't looking around ;p

I am not exactly looking forward to Monday. Weekend ends too fast! Nevertheless, the next morning will still come. Well, bring it on!

Prague, here we come!

Hooray! Finally, we (my colleague and I) had it sorted out. Prague, it is! A city that promises romance and scenic view. I just can't wait for Easter to come. Probably, it's not the best time to travel as price of tickets and accomodation will probably be hiked up due to the holiday but it's the best time in terms of taking days off. No extra days are needed! We shall have 5 days off to travel from Copenhagen to Berlin and then to Prague (via train - Eurail)! We could have gone some where farther (initial plan was Barcelona or Greece) but the price of flight tickets fluctuated a lot. So sis, you are lucky. Shall have to go with you ;p

Lazy Weekend

I am now back to my peaceful weekend lifestyle. Unlike back in Malaysia, time passes extremely fast. It feels slower here. This weekend is beautiful. There's sun illuminating my whitely painted apartment, giving it an unusual glow, which simply makes it gorgeous. Despite the sun, the air is still very chilly. *Brrrrr...*

Since I was away for 2 weeks, I spent Saturday cleaning my house and doing laundry. The S-train provides free train ride every first Sunday of the month. So, I took the opportunity to shop for groceries.

Right after coming out from the supermarket and entering the mall, I was being stopped politely by a sales girl. She had very sharp features and flawless complexion (Envy!). She was explaining to me products made from Dead Sea. While I was very tempted to buy the Mud Mask of Noir (which costs 600DKK!), I resisted the temptation and decided to get myself a Dead Sea salt scrub since I didn't have any body scrub just yet. The products she demonstrated on me were miraculous! If you are curious, check it out here.

My dear sis is rather stressed up lately. We were supposed to chat this weekend but she ended up working =.=" So, I dedicated a song to her. The title is rather cute. Suits her (Tiny/Petite but strong)! Hehe.. Here is the song.

Nothing beats spending great time with family and friends. It's indeed a special chinese new year I ever had thus far. I was up in the air on Chinese New Year's eve, on the way back home. I am glad that I could make it to the retirement celebration dinner of my former supervisor. She deserves a break from work after working terribly hard for almost half a century. Though I did not get to meet up with all my friends, it was superb to meet some of them =)

This is the first time the whole family travelled during Chinese New Year! It was quite a good trip although it probably isn't the best. Time is too short =p The last time I went to Hong Kong was 15 years ago (Pictures shall be uploaded soon)! It was an awesome and a perfect getaway from the crazy hot weather in Malaysia. My pale fair skin (as a result of hiding behind those winter clothings) turned brown and red in less than 2 weeks!

Now, in the process of getting back to how I was before Chinese New Year ;)

White White White...

It is white everywhere. The ground is layered with thick snow. As I was telling my sis that, I saw white droplets falling off from the sky. It's snowing! There's wind too - that made the innocence of snowing a snowstorm. However, the sky is still bright, which is awesome!

So, another day at home. Hehe, lazy to go out in the cold and to walk like a penguin in thick snow :p

We constantly need reminders to jolt us to realisation what matters to us. Here's an inspiring 30 second speech by Bryan Dyson, the CEO of Coca-cola.

Although I cannot declare myself a workaholic, I am somewhat inclined to be engrossed in things that I do that I am totally oblivious what is happening around me. A colleague who sat across me commented "Do you notice that when you work, you just concentrate on your laptop and you don't look any where else or talk?". He has been trying to distract me from work for a while, every now and then, just to make sure I take a break off from my laptop. He meant well and I thank him for that.

After reading the speech (sent by a friend), it reminded me again that there are certain things in the world that you do not have a second chance to own or to make amends to.

Have you managed to keep all the 5 balls up in the air? Well, at least the vulnerable ones....?

At the exit/entrance of West Kensington station, turn right. Walk straight. Cross the road at the first traffic light and continue walking straight. The hotel is on the right.

Price : £27.31per night per person - twin room, including tax and fees. (Total was £218.48 for 4 nights for 2 person)
There were complimentary drinks at the reception. So, you may have free flow of hot drinks whole day. It's a basic hotel room. So remember to bring your toothbrush, toothpaste, laundry bags, and so on. Shower gel and shampoo were provided, though.

On our first day, the first place we went to was Leicester Square. That's also where Chinatown was located. We also bought musical play tickets at Leicester Square station. If you buy early or book online, you may be able to get discounted tickets. We managed to get tickets for Wicked at a discounted rate! (£40 per person)

Next, London Eye ride ;) It was a rainy day....Otherwise, it would have been perfect! The ride costed £17.88.

National Art Gallery. Admission is free. If you appreciate paintings, it's highly recommended to pay this tourist attraction a visit. It brings you through paintings from 16th century right to 21st century.
Outside the gallery is Trafalgar Square! Fountain at Trafalgar square Statue at Trafalgar Square Cannot recall what building is this but it's right opposite the statue at Trafalgar Square.Ready for traditional English tea (actually that was our brunch) at Fortnum and Mason which is located at Piccadily Street (about £32-36 per person. Yeah, ouch but since we were there, might as well give it a try). Looked yummy, eh. We were so stuffed by the end of the tea. I didn't finish everything on the plate. It was good that I had a walk right after the tea.

The British Museum. Worth going. Plenty to see inside. You can easily spend a day in there. Admission is free.

I know it's a little strange to go for oriental food at a Western country. Hehe. This restaurant was recommended by a friend of my colleague. Barshu Restaurant. It is claimed to have been awarded the Michelin Guided 2009 recognition. Barshu is located in Chinatown. A rather pricey restaurant.

Fish in hot oil. This is a renown dish in Szechuan. The fish is cooked in hot oil with lots of dried chillies and pepper. Beneath the fish are the bean sprouts (aka tauge). I like the taste. It's aromatic. Unfortunately, the chef did not use fillet only. It contains bones and fish belly (I know it's the best part but I dislike bellies). The texture of the fish was not as tender and soft as the one found in Copenhagen.

Another interesting dish. Fried chicken with dried chillies and sesame. It's spicy but really good. I love it. There's a challenge here though - you need to look for chicken among the abundance of dried chillies which are almost the same size as the chicken! LOL

Copenhagen greeted my return with a difference of 10 degree Celcius and snow storm! It was indeed a perfect getaway, though short but definitely enjoyable (shhh, I didn't want to return to work!). Great companies also contributed to the enjoyable short vacation.

I reckon question marks are all over your head - where exactly did I go? LOL. London, it is. Sales was everywhere. How strange that I got absolutely nothing except some things from Simple and a hair dye for a friend. My colleagues pampered themselves with Burberry handbag, items from Balenciaga and sunglass from Chloe, the list goes on. I know, I know, I sound pathetic. I managed to find something I like in H&M but it didn't fit me well. The round neckline was too huge for me - haha, nothing to flaunt! =.=

It was also the first time I went for a musical play. Awesome! If you have not seen Wicked, it's highly recommended. I love the songs and the lead actor in the play was quite attractive ;p The lead actress's voice impressed me very much. All in all, every one in the play did very well despite the fact that they were relatively young. I wouldn't mind to go for another musical play (or even more!)

First Home Cooked Meal

It was actually not my first home cooked meal in Copenhagen but it was the first meal that I actually cooked 3 dishes spontaneously. Not only for myself. Also, for my colleague who came to my apartment after work.

We were supposed to run a macro overnight to update a system. Hence, she came by to show me how to do that. As she was busy setting up the macro, I prepared dinner in the kitchen. My mind was racing on the way back - "Gee, what should I cook. What was in the fridge? As far as I recalled, most of the things were in the freezer =.= "

A sudden flow of idea came to my rescue! I had beancurd, capsicum, shredded ham, minced meat and kailan safely stored in the fridge, not the freezer! Aha...I was proud of myself that I managed to think of something quick and easy to cook ;p Come to think of it, it was really nothing! Hahaha. At least, the presentation wasn't very captivating.....but the taste was by the passing mark :p

Ahem,..proudly present dish #1 : Minced meat with beancurd in soy sauce. Looks blend, eh? Good for diet, though *grin* I am a healthy person! (Nah, only when I am lazy...oppsss...what did I say? You didn't catch that =p)

Okies, here is dish #2 : Fried kailan with diced garlic and ginger.

Lastly, dish #3: Italian tomato soup with sundried tomatoes, capsicum and shredded ham. Tadaa!! All done in....I think about an hour or lesser. Hey, plus washing, cutting, and cooking the rice!
These strawberries were not part of the "dishes" that day. I bought them at Chinatown last weekend for 10DKK!! Quite reasonable as the size of the strawberries were relatively large and they were fresh :D Just irresistable to show them off - strikingly red, succulent and simply fresh! Love them.

My friend, WS, just won himself a netbook from HP Mini Series!! Lucky devil. Anyway, it's also his effort and creativity that won him a luxurious prize. It was a model that I wanted to get last year but changed my mind after weighing the pros and cons. Would rather get a laptop instead.

While chatting happily with my sis, a song caught my attention. The singer's vocal was flawless and simply captivating. I took a quick glance at the pop up window of the Internet Radio. It read " Leona Lewis - Yesterday".

I was immediately hooked to the song and went to Google and Youtube it ;p

Friday is always a day when everyone gets loosen up a little. I wasn't exactly in the mood to work either. When I logged on to my email, there was this mail sent by my colleague. Here it goes:

Life @ Copenhagen

While I was chatting with my friend last Sunday, he reminded me that I could blog about my experience in Copenhagen. Brilliant idea! Mmmm,...where should I start.

I recall my first visit here was a rather long one - it was a month's stay. I find the buildings here are rather square - hehe very geometrical and symmetric. Household designs are rather interesting too. Next, the things here are very costly, be it food, clothing, households, you get the picture. The living cost is high. Anything below 100DKK (Danish Krone) is considered reasonable or cheap. That's about MYR70 after converting to Malaysian ringgit (an estimation).

A very noticeable difference between this "Lego land" and Malaysia is the weather. It feels like summer throughout the year in Malaysia but it's a complete opposite in Copenhagen. Most of the time, the weather is chilly. Even in some summer nights, the wind can send you chills to your bones. Anyway, after all, you will just get used to it and wrap yourself with more layers! Haha. Right, that leads me to the next point. I always need to remember to put on layers before going out of the house or risk freezing myself.

The house lock system here is very interesting. The very same key you use to open your house door is used to open the main entrance downstairs (if you are leaving in an apartment) and also your back door! When you have visitors, they have to "ring" you at the main entrance. You then need to unlock the door by pressing a button near your house door, which is inside your apartment/house. Once the visitors managed to enter, they will then climb the stairs to your apartment. Most of the time, you would have opened the door to greet your visitors. Otherwise, they will give a knock at your door or ring the doorbell (if you have one). The apartments/houses have rather classical design in general (should I say, very Danish). You will notice a lot of things are wooden. Extra care is needed. I personally prefer tile floor or marble floor.

If you happen to arrive at Copenhagen on weekends, you will find the street is extremely quiet. Most of the shops are closed. Shopping malls (and supermarkets) are opened only on the first Sunday of the month. However, in some weeks of November and the whole month of December, the malls are opened every weekend due to the festive season. Anyway, there is a supermarket which opens on Sundays - Netto, for certain outlets though and the price of things are slightly more expensive. I actually miss the crowd in shopping malls back in Malaysia. They are opened over the weekends and even on festive seasons!

Being a Malaysian, we always treasure the variety of food we have! Nothing beats us as the food heaven. It's a lot cheaper in comparison to the food here in Copenhagen. Eating out is a luxury and you will be surprise that dining in Asian restaurant may be a wiser choice if you have already tried the Danish cuisine. They are more value for money and slightly cheaper. However, if you are going for sushi or Japanese cuisine, that is a slightly different situation. Thai cuisine is abundant here and a handful of them are rather good.

There's one thing I dread is throwing trash. I need to carry it to the backyard, out in the cold! The thing that I dislike the most is to use the backdoor. The staircase is narrow and it's rather dusty. That's quite a nightmare for me. Luckily, there's another way to the backyard. That's through the main entrance. I am fine with that :D In fact, I prefer to go through the front door. Just that, I need to make sure myself is wrapped warmly.

Year 2010

It's the second day of the new year! Still having the "hung over" feeling though I didn't drink during the New Year celebration. I suppose it must be the lack of sleep. I stayed awake for 21 hours between eve and New Year! Couldn't remember when was the last time I did that. The dark circles around my eyes are rather prevailing. Hehe.

2010 New Year celebration was really special to me. I was at my colleague's place to countdown the Danish way. Her husband and herself had put in so much effort to prepare the lovely dinner for us and not to mention bought some really cute things for celebration. We had miniatures of poppers and "fireworks". Cool. I never bothered buying those back home. Fireworks are banned for personal consumption anyway.

We also played games like Wii and Partner board game. It was fun and when the clock hit 12AM, we tossed wine glasses filled with Champagne to welcome the brand new year. Of course, I had to skip the drinking part. Just tossed for the fun of it ;p Hehehe.

After that, we put on our warm clothings and went down to the open area to light fireworks. I mean real fireworks - a huge box fulled of them. Back home, we only can witness fireworks being lit by commercial bodies like the hotel or event co-ordinators but here, my colleague's husband lit the fireworks by himself right before us! That's really cool! We had 2 boxes. The fireworks exploded into beautiful sparks right above our head. I must admit I was a little scared because I had never came that close to huge boxes of fireworks. It was loud and I still couldn't believe we were so near the fireworks! A night to remember, definitely!

Mmm..I am now hesitating should I go out today or not. Wanted to get some things. It's a beautiful day today, really. It's sunny and it must had snowed last night. The ground was layered with snow this morning.

Aw,...I don't want Monday to come. How I wish I could stop the time ;) Nah, unless I have supernatural powers.

Sunny Boxing Day 2009!

I was awoke to a beautiful, sunny Saturday morning! It's the Boxing Day. Wee! No plans though. Malls and supermarkets will only open tomorrow. So, I shall go out to do some shopping then.

Here I am, lazing around listening to Alarice's music (had introduced her during my previous post). Since I had lent my camera to my colleague who is now in Jutland, I took out my camera phone and tried to get some shots of the sunny day. I later discovered that I still have some photos in the phone which I had yet to publish or blog about! Perfect timing. Shall do that right away...

Thanks to my deteriorated memory, I could not remember when was this but it was a couple of weeks before taking off to Copenhagen.

Curry Laksa Toast with butter and kaya Char Koay Teow Chee Cheong Fun. It's not eaten with dark sauce that is sweet and salty. Not exactly sure what sauce is that but it is eaten with pickled green chilli! Special indeed ;)Glutinous rice with curry chicken. It is served in 2 flavours - spicy or sweet. The latter is eaten with kaya.

痞子英雄 . Black and White

I am currently hooked to this Taiwanese drama serial. Black and White is unlike other Taiwanese drama series. The story line moves in a faster pace and I like the action. One could say it's an idol drama since the actors/actresses are rather young - Vic Zhou (周渝民/ 仔仔), Mark Zhao (趙又廷), Nina Chang (張鈞甯) and Ivy Chen (陳意涵) but this is of a higher notch, in my opinion.

Vic Zhou seems to have improved in terms of acting and the newbie Mark Zhao is rather good in portraying his role.
At times, the drama reminds me of the infamous "Infernal Affairs" since the story revolves around cops, triads and baddies. Hence, the title Black and White.

I will not give away any details. Shall leave it to you to unfold the story. Definitely worth seeing ;) All right, I shall resume to follow the next episode =p

对人家好等于对自己残忍?

Parents and teacher taught us to be kind to others since young. No doubt, it's a virtue and it makes you happy that others benefit from your kindness towards them.

At times, however, I wonder how true is the saying "Being kind to others results in being cruel to oneself" [对人家好等于对自己残忍]. There were a few occasions that I was exactly in this position. Perhaps, I was being too ~~nice~~ foolish to think that I should help as I felt sorry or responsible towards others when the truth is my help is a nice to have and not an obligation at all. So, in a way, I am at fault for putting myself in a less favourable position.

Anyway, I will continue to help people but I need to be careful not to end up having myself upset instead. Otherwise, I will be the biggest fool! :p Haha.
